Drizzly Winter Scene

9/16/2025

by Ella Shively
Picture

No detectable point of light -
sky so gray, I might as well paint
it with the water
I rinse my brushes in.
Stars dripping
from crabapple trees.
A man with no raincoat
walking his elderly pitbull
very slowly
from one roseless rosebush
to the next.

Ella Shively is a writer and naturalist from Wisconsin. She is  currently working toward her MFA in Poetry at Cornell University. Her  writing has been published in RockPaperPoem, Bracken, SoFloPoJo, and elsewhere. You can find her online at www.instagram.com/shivelywrites.
