love baked into little cakes

9/20/2026

by Daniel A. Rabuzzi
Someday a person will come down to us with eyes like little pails of glass beads. I will be there to greet them. They'll remind us of the things we need to treasure. They'll surface for us the ephemera that we should not take with us to the grave. We'll stroll along Mercy Boulevard, greeting our friends and our friends' friends, and even our despicable enemies. Together we'll draw the mysteries on the walls of the city, etch them on the sidewalks, play hopscotch with the wind. The moon will rise every hour each night and we'll fathom bird-song once more. Before noon on the third day, or perhaps the fifth week by the old clock, we'll pose with lions and visit young dragons in the garden. Everyone will take communion to the pomp of harmonicas.

Daniel A. Rabuzzi has been published in, among others, Crab Creek Review, Harvard Review, New Letters, Chicago Review of Books, and Tupelo Quarterly. A Pushcart nominee, he has had poetry chapbooks published by Moonstone Arts Center (2025), and Finishing Line Press (2026). He lives in New York City with the woodcarver Deborah A. Mills.
