by Andrew Milne Notes "Toe Time" is a song to sing to your baby as you’re changing their diaper. It has a mild cognitive purpose in associating the word “toes” with touching and wiggling the toes; it's really just to keep caregiver and baby happy. Changing diapers is no one’s favorite activity, but it doesn't have be done in a grim and resentful manner. Music helps us show our love more strongly and more often! "Toe Time" can be sung to any tune that starts with a repeated three-note phrase. "Chicago, Chicago" (Frank Sinatra) is one of many possible choices. The baby’s name and age can be used in the appropriate places, and the second verse can be extended for as long as the mind allows. Babies are very forgiving that way. Andrew Milne is a writer living in Vancouver, British Columbia, after many years of living in Montreal and New York. He and his wife Brenda have two sons, both of whom grew up with "Toe Time" and many other family songs. Andrew is a scientist and engineer by profession, but as Albert Einstein memorably put it: “Imagination is more important than knowledge.” So who cares if you can’t remember the words (or most of the music) to those show tunes and other melodies that stay in our minds.
